The membrane pump or diaphragm pump is a type of positive displacement pump, generally reciprocating, in which the pressure increase is achieved by the thrust of elastic walls —membranes or diaphragms— that vary the volume of the camera, increasing and decreasing it alternately. Check valves, usually elastomer ball valves, control fluid movement from the area of lower pressure to the area of higher pressure.
